Us vs. Them - Problems in a Party System

Published by The Argus at 7:23 pm under Politics Edit This

Saw a Craigslist post today that said essentially that the trade imbalance is caused by Republicans?!? Only if they all bought their plasma screens at the big box. My reply:

Um, 15 to 20 percent of the trade imbalance with China can be directly attributed to Walmart. That bastion of the middle class. You won’t find a whole lot of finance guys shopping at Walmart. Part of the problem, and it’s exacerbated here; is the misconception that we have to choose sides. Yes, this election I’ll vote for Mr. McCain. I’ll also vote for Gabby Giffords, a democrat. I voted for Janet for Gov. I am not party centrist, in fact, this is a big, maybe the biggest, problem we have. Voting on party lines. I wish we could eliminate the party system.

My choices, and I believe that they are informed choices, have nothing to do with Democrat this, Republican that. Just happens that this time around, my choice is a Republican. A cogent example is the thousands of indignant posts decreeing Republicans as warmongering. Actually, EVERY WAR IN THE LAST 100 years was started while a democrat was in office. Trust me, Bill Clinton did not make the booming economy of the 90’s; Bill Gates did. I subscribe to the Ayn Rand theory of groups. I don’t do political parties, I don’t do racism, I don’t do Religion, I don’t do unions as well. And let me tell you I’ve fucked up a good, upper-level, well-paying, government job on the Pacific Coast. I would not do the union gig. There is no right or wrong here, Just my personal belief system. There isn’t a “One” right theory or thought. If you gave me a choice of exotic car to drive; the Ferrari works, so does a Porsche, So does the Lexus. There is no Right or Wrong. Anytime you have to have “safety in numbers” to feel confident in your choices, the outcome is inherently bad. NO great discovery, NO great invention is attributed to a “group”. They bear the mark of an INDIVIDUAL. Portugal did not discover America; Columbus did. (Yeah, I know, but it’s just for the sake of example; don’t flame me.) Pfizer did not discover the Polio vaccine; Jonas Salk did. etc… I do not need to “join” to feel safe in my opinions. Come November 4th; get out the vote!! If Mr. Obama should win, Feel free to tell me, “I told you so!” But, keep in mind that doing so means that you DID NOT feel secure; else it would not have been necessary to “convince” me to begin with! ………One World……One People….Peace

I hear what you say - tell me why you choose McCain? Do you think he is the best choice for you personally or for the country?
